The Baltic States also known as the Baltic Countries is a region consisting of the countries of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. They gained their independence on World War I from the Russian Empire, to lose it again in World War II to the hands of the Soviet Union.
They finally regained independence in 1991 and are today three thriving countries part of the European Union. They are a success story.

Estonia is the northernmost of the three states and covers about 1,500 islands. Its capital and largest city is Tallinn. It is located on the northeastern edge of the European Union. One more thing to mention is that Estonia’s territory is mostly covered by forests.

Tallinn Estonia, the Capital is a magical city of medieval cobblestone streets. Very interesting is the Town’s Center dominated by the Oleviste Church. From there you may climb to Toompea Castle for magnificent views of the city.

It neighbors Estonia to the south and has Russia to the East. As with Estonia and Lithuania it became independent from the Soviet Union in 1991 and since then has joined the European Union. It is ranked the second greenest country in the world. Its capital Riga is the largest city in the Baltic States.

Vilnius is the thriving Capital of Lithuania
It is the largest of the Baltic countries bordering Poland on the south and Latvia on the north. It has gone a long way since 1991 when it was the first of the Baltic States to declare independence from the USSR. It is now a full member of NATO and the European Union. Its capital is Vilnius.
