Africa Tourism has been on the rise for many decades. As opposed to those war thorn countries, there are many others with a stable economy and government avid to welcome the tourists, that bring with them progress and well being.
This industry holds great promises for the continent’s future. I have been to many countries in Africa and enjoyed every moment of my visits.
Here are my top tourist destinations.
Cape Town South Africa with its Table Mountain on the background
South Africa Tourism
This country is today the number one tourist destination in the continent. South Africa called the “Rainbow Nation” has everything the tourist looks for. From amazing beaches stretching for thousands of miles, an abundance of wild life parks, beautiful vegetation and above all fantastic people that make you feel at home at any moment.
Cape Town is by far the top place to visit. After enjoying this San Francisco like city and viewing Table Mountain, you head to the Garden Route and the Cape Wine Lands, which are another treat for the tourists.
Visit Kruger National Park, next to the border with Mozambique and the Shamwari Game Reserve, located 75 Km outside Port Elizabeth. It has been voted the World's Leading Safari and Game Reserve and Conservation Company for many consecutive years.
When you travel north to Johannesburg make sure you visit Pretoria for a great surprise. This is a garden city that is the proud Capital of the country.
Djemaa El Fna Market in Marrakech Morocco
The Kingdom of Morocco offers plenty attractions to the tourist. Here you’ll find amazing beaches like Agadir, the city of Casablanca with its French flair and great fish; Rabat, the Capital of Morocco with its monuments and rich history. Head north to Fez, the second largest city in Morocco and Meknes, a former capital of the kingdom.
But the most important place to visit is Marrakech. Located on the slopes of the Atlas Mountains. This imperial city is a large, busy and fascinating metropolis that captures the visitor from the moment of arrival.
The Medina or old walled part of town, the Majorelle Gardens, and the souks shouldn't be missed. At the heart of the Medina, the Djemma el Fnaa market, is a must.
Kenya with the capital in Nairobi is a country blessed by amazing lakes, awe inspiring beaches and beautiful islands on the Indian Ocean.
If you are looking for a Safari Vacation, Kenya definitely tops your list in the Black Continent. Weather is a pleasant tropical climate, ideal for all kind of adventures.
This is a country for history lovers. The ancient architecture, the world-renowned museums, make this country a perfect destination near the coasts of Europe.
The beaches, especially those on the Island of Djerba off the northern coast are great and attract millions of Europeans to these shores.
The Omo River Region of southwestern Ethiopia is the top destination in this country. This remote location can be reached only by 4-wheel drive. Here the visitor will meet more than 50 tribes that keep their customs and traditions intact.
Visit this area on an organized tour, since it is not easy to get around on your own.
Namibia is a country in southwest Africa along the Atlantic Ocean coast. The capital, Windhoek, features German colonial era buildings such as Windhoek's Christuskirche, built in 1907.
Here you’ll find the largest national parks in the continent, with safari tours, beautiful sand dunes, and horseback riding. Everywhere you visit you’ll be impressed by the magnificent landscapes
Namibia is renowned for its spectacular National Parks. Three of the continent’s largest game parks are located on its lands. With safari tours, horseback riding and beautiful sand dunes, tourists have an abundance of choice. To top it all off, the country’s magnificent landscapes also make for remarkable viewing just about anywhere you can visit.
Uganda and Rwanda
Virunga Mountains between the countries of Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo in East Africa, feature many of the 700 mountain gorillas left in the world.
About 300 gorillas inhabit an area called Virunga Range, an extinct volcanic region. Watching these gorillas in their habitat is an awesome experience.
Zimbabwe and Zambia
Victoria Falls are located between Zambia and Zimbabwe in Southern Africa. Visiting the falls is a unique experience even if you are there for a day or two. The falls are over 1.7 Km wide and more than 100 meters high while the waters fall over the edge into the Zambezi River, generates an impressive spray that shoot into the sky, and can be seen from 50 Km away.
Giza Pyramid near Cairo Egypt
One of my favorite destinations, Egypt, the land of the Pharaohs doesn’t need much explanation. Everybody wants to see the Pyramids of Giza dating thousands of years.
Cairo the Capital of Egypt is a fascinating city with many luxurious hotels near the Nile River.
Fly to Luxor and take a Nile cruise which is a 4-day unforgettable experience is unforgettable visiting the Valley of Kings and Queens in Luxor, besides other ancient places on the way to Aswan.
Once in Aswan visit the Great Aswan Dam , an embankment dam built across the Nile; and last but not least, fly to Abu Simbel for a few hours to see the statue of Ramses the Great at the Great Temple.
Djenne, founded in 800 AD, is one of sub-Saharan Africa's oldest cities. It is located on an island on the delta of the Niger River. For hundreds of years it has been a natural hub of transport of goods between the Sahara Desert and the forests of Guinea. The market in Djenne, held every Monday, is one of the most interesting and lively markets in Africa.
Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania is the world’s tallest free-standing mountain, standing at 5,900 meters high. If you are a mountain climber it may take you 6 days to conquer it.
The important thing here is that anybody who is fit and healthy can do it, because no special equipment is needed, but anyway 75% of all attempts fail.
There are several important islands around the African Continent, being the largest Madagascar. Others are Zanzibar, Seychelles, Reunion and Cape Verde islands.
