The Capital of Sweden is also considered the Capital of Scandinavia. It merges elegantly the old and and the super modern. It is called the Venice of the North for its many canals and is also considered one of the world’s most beautiful cities.
This is a conglomerate of more than 30,000 islands, islets and cays of which just about a thousand are inhabited.
The modern city of Gothenburg, Sweden
The capital of West Sweden this important industrial city has many canals, cobbled streets and many parks including Sweden’s largest Botanical Garden with over 17,000 species. Here you feel the real Swedish lifestyle, with outdoor cafes, food markets and elegant restaurants.
Just across the channel from Copenhagen lies this important city. It is recognized by its many organic offerings and it was designated as Sweden’s first Fair-trade City in 2006
Icehotel made totally of ice in Jukkasjärv, Sweden
Located in Jukkasjärv, this is the world’s largest hotel made totally of ice, including the ice church and Ice bar. It is built every November- December and it melts by itself during April-May
From here you can take an array of excursions on the Arctic Trail through the wilderness of Swedish Lapland and its people the Sami.
The Island of Marstrand off the coast of Gothenburg
This island near Gothenburg is a playground for royalty celebrities. Visit the Carlsten’s Fortress for a magnificent view looking down upon the island and its collection of wooden homes and sailing boats. Visit the former residence of King Oscar II, the Grand Hotel Marstrand with beautiful sunsets over the island.
This is Sweden’s first Marine National Park located in Koster Island up the coast of Gothenburg. It is full of fishing villages surrounded by a great landscape that has inspired my artists. Lovers of Seafood and lobster will find this as their perfect place.
The town of Ystad made famous by author Henning Mankell
This is like going back in time to bygone days. With many beautiful houses and many restaurants and shops, this is a place for surprises around every corner. This city was put on the World Map by Best Selling author Henning Mankell and his detective stories about Kurt Wallander, the bachelor Police Superintendent that solves the most complex criminal cases in Ystad.
This is a region or province of many contrasts, vast forests, many ridges rising above the landscape and glorious fields. This peninsula boasts some of the best Swedish Beaches along the different seas.
The town of Visby on the Island of Gotland, Sweden
This city on the west coast of Gotland has been there for centuries. You may visit many relics of ancient times, such as the Ringmuren, a 3 Km long medieval stone wall encircling the city.
Visby has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During summers Gotland in general and Visby in particular has a nightlife compared to that of Stockholm. Many artists flock to Visby during summer to take in the island’s art scene.
